When You Need Electric Rather Than Hot Water Trench Heating
Our electric trench heater range exists for one specific situation: where a hot water circuit either isn't available or cannot deliver the output required.
This applies to:
- Garden rooms and outbuildings - no plumbed heating circuit
- Extensions with ASHP systems running at low flow temperatures - where output falls short
- Conservatories without existing pipework - where running new pipe is impractical
- Renovation projects - where opening floors for pipework is not an option
- Commercial applications - where zone control by circuit is preferred
If you have a working hot water circuit with adequate flow temperature, our hot water trench heaters will typically give better running efficiency. Call us and we'll advise which is right for your project.

Gunning Electric Trench Heater Specifications

FAQ
Common Questions
Can electric trench heaters be used with an ASHP? Yes. If your air source heat pump runs at a flow temperature too low to give adequate output from a hot water trench heater, electric elements can supplement or replace the hot water circuit in specific zones.
What electrical supply do I need? This depends on the output required. We can advise on element configuration and electrical load once we know your required output per metre run. Your electrician will need to wire the elements to a suitable circuit.
Can I specify the casing size? Yes - casing width, depth and length are all made to your requirement. Minimum width is 130mm.
Is there a price difference vs hot water trench heaters? The unit cost is comparable. Running costs over time are higher for electric than for a well-functioning hot water system. We'll always advise honestly on which is the better fit for your project.
