Gunning trench heaters are hot water perimeter heating units, set flush into the floor with only a grille visible at surface level. They are designed for buildings with large areas of glazing where traditional wall-mounted radiators are impractical or unwanted.
Our trench heaters are the standard solution for:
- Bi-fold and sliding doors - continuous heat along the full door run eliminates cold draughts
- Floor-to-ceiling glazing - prevents condensation on large glass facades

Because we manufacture in-house, we cut every unit to your exact required length. There are no fixed stock lengths.
How they work: How a Hot Water Trench Heater Works
The trench casing is set into the floor. Inside sits an aluminium-finned copper tube element connected to your hot water circuit. Cold air drops into the trench on the glazed side, passes through the element, warms, and rises into the room through natural convection - silent, draught-free, and with no electrical supply required to the unit itself.
The grille is the only visible component. It sits flush with the finished floor level.

We manufacture six trench heater types from 95mm to 185mm deep, each with different casing widths and heat outputs. Every unit is cut to your exact required length. Bespoke widths and depths are available on request.

How do I choose the right trench heater type? The correct model depends on your available floor depth, the trench width you can cut, and the heat output required. Call us on 01268 545154 - we'll specify the right unit based on your glazing area, room dimensions and boiler flow temperature, at no charge.
What lengths can you manufacture to? Any length to your exact requirement. We do not work from fixed stock lengths, and bespoke widths and depths are also available.
What is the minimum floor depth needed? Our standard range starts at 95mm deep. If your floor construction is shallower, contact us to discuss bespoke options.
Can the grille be colour-matched to my flooring? Yes. The rigid grille can be powder coated to any standard RAL colour. The flexible grille is available in silver/grey anodised aluminium as standard.
Do you need an electrical supply to the trench? No - our hot water trench heaters work by natural convection and require no electrical supply to the unit itself. If your project does not have a water circuit available, see our electric trench heaters.
Do you supply to trade and architects? Yes. We supply direct to homeowners, self-builders, architects, M&E consultants and main contractors. We're happy to provide specification data for drawings or tender packages.
