Gunning Trench Heating has been designed to be installed within a floor void to enable the maximum available space to be utilised. The trench units are supplied in various sizes to suit output, pipework configurations and floor depths.
Our trench heating systems have been designed and constructed to give many years of trouble-free service. All materials utilised in manufacture have been carefully selected to prevent any problem with corrosion or material degradation. Having no moving parts, the only care necessary will be regular cleaning and inspection.
Before attempting to install firstly check that all components are available. It is important that the trench void is prepared prior to installation of the casing and that the depth is available and has been adequately levelled. (Depending on method) Please note that carpet, wood or tile thickness should be taken into account.
The finned heating elements will arrive in their respective heater casings. These should be removed and carefully placed to one side for the time being. Connect the interconnecting casing modules together to form each fitment and then lower them as a single unit into the available trench void. The casings are marked - L/H, CTR, & R/H etc. Make sure the total fitment lengths are correct.
Casings are joined with the supplied Phillips M3.5 x 10mm pan head, self-drilling & self-tapping screws through the prepared holes into the casings "tongues".
1. Establish the required position of the casing side and the finished floor level.
2. Fit the made to measure end grille frames to the assembled heater run by sliding them from the end onto the top return fold of the casing. (Should have two per run and should not be secured at this point)
Align the side of the casing with the required position and the upper edges of the enclosed end edge frames with the desired finished floor level.
Ensure that the heating elements are at "room side" so that the cold air from the windows/walls can drop into the "open" side of the trench heater casing.
3. Levelling of the trench heater in its floor void is accomplished with the supplied M6 x 50mm hex-headed adjustment screws, which pass through the threaded inserts in the base of the casing. (+35mm height adjustment is available)
4. Now, secure the casing in that levelled position using the fixing holes provided centrally at either end of the casing. The normal method employed for securing into concrete is suitable length raw plugs and screws. (Not supplied)
5. the finned heating elements may now be unwrapped and re-installed back into their heater casings and joined using standard 15mm or 22mm plumbing couplings. (Soldered, Crimped or Compression)
The casings have punched holes at the ends and front faces for the flow and return pipework connections.
6. The full lengths of the grille frame/edge trims can now be fitted to the locating flange of the casing between the loosely fitted end frames. The closed end edge grille frames may now be butted against the long lengths of the edge trim and secured with the supplied countersunk "self-drilling" screws.
7. Next, lay the interconnecting grilles carefully in place.
8. Once you have fitted the cross blade grille into the supporting grille frame/trim and are happy with the result you may wish to prevent unauthorised tampering by attaching our special "hold down" grille clips.
Caution: Great care must be taken to avoid scratching the anodised or powder coated finish on the grilles.
Grille Hold Down Clip Fitment
Begin by tucking the plain end of the clip under the supporting edge trim, the clip is then rotated forward over the grille tube. Now using a flat-bladed screwdriver carefully push the "Hooked" end of the hold-down clip down between the grille spars and locate the "hooked" end under the grille spar.
Clips should be placed at either side of the grille near the end of each "run" and at regular intervals between.
